Muhammad Habib Shakir: These are they against whom the word has proved true among nations of the jinn and the men that have already passed away before them; surely they are losers.
Abdullah Yusuf Ali: Such are they against whom is proved the sentence among the previous generations of Jinns and men, that have passed away; for they will be (utterly) lost.
M.Pickthall: Such are those on whom the Word concerning nations of the jinn and mankind which have passed away before them hath effect. Lo! they are the losers.
Amatul Rahmân Omer: Such are the people against whom the sentence of punishment becomes due along with the communities of the jinn (- houghty) and (ordinary) people that preceded them. Of course, they were the losers.
Maulana Mohammad Ali: And he who says to his parents: Fie on you! Do you threaten me that I shall be brought forth, when generations have passed away before me? And they both call for Allah’s aid: Woe to thee! Believe; surely the promise of Allah is true. But he says: This is nothing but stories of the ancients.
