Muhammad Habib Shakir: And when Our messengers came to Lut, he was grieved for them, and he lacked strength to protect them, and said: This is a hard day.
Abdullah Yusuf Ali: When Our messengers came to Lut, he was grieved on their account and felt himself powerless (to protect) them. He said: "This is a distressful day."
M.Pickthall: And when Our messengers came unto Lot, he was distressed and knew not how to protect them. He said: This is a distressful day.
Amatul Rahmân Omer: And when Our messengers came to Lot he was grieved on their account and felt helpless on their behalf (- of his people, for he had no means to protect them) and he said, `This is a distressful and hard day.´
Maulana Mohammad Ali: O Abraham, cease from this. Surely the decree of thy Lord has gone forth and there must come to them a chastisement that cannot be averted.
