Muhammad Habib Shakir: So I fled from you when I feared you, then my Lord granted me wisdom and made me of the messengers;
Abdullah Yusuf Ali: "So I fled from you (all) when I feared you; but my Lord has (since) invested me with judgment (and wisdom) and appointed me as one of the messengers.
M.Pickthall: Then I fled from you when I feared you, and my Lord vouchsafed me a command and appointed me (of the number) of those sent (by Him).
Amatul Rahmân Omer: `So I fled from you when I apprehended (injustice from) you; then (it came to pass that) my Lord granted me knowledge and (right) judgment and made me (one) of the Messengers.
